Activities

Field Visit (21 August 2015)

A further visit was made to the site of the rail block, when, in addition to the previous concrete block noted, a further 3 more concrete blocks lying above the stone wall by the rail embankment and 7.6m W of the parapet of Donkey Bridge were noted. Each appeared to have the central hole for the erection of a vertical metal post, and none were in their original position.

Visited by RCAHMS (AKK) 21 August 2015.

Field Visit (12 May 2015)

The remains of a rail block can be seen immediately to the W of Donkey bridge. Two concrete blocks lie on each side of the railway. The blocks which are not in their original position have been discarded and left on the surface. Each has a slot for a metal post to be inserted. The blocks would have been positioned across the railway embankment and between the rails and sleepers at ground level. Metal posts would have been inserted in the event of an enemy attack.

The rail block and probable associated roadblock were covered by pillboxes (see NH66NE 136 and 146) and protected the route into Invergordon from the W.

Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 5 May 2015.
