Activities

Note (12 January 2015)

Located by the beach to the West of the Lighthouse was a searchlight battery supporting a coast battery (see NH75NW 349).

A picture of the searchlight emplacement is held in the Rowley H F S (Captain) Collection in the Imperial War Museum (Q 23081), captioned as 'Chanory Point Searchlight station, Inverness Naval Base'.

The battery comprised two searchlights on a wooden platform with a wooden and corregated tin building to the rear, which may have held a generator to power the lights. From the photograph the battery appears to be manned by navy ratings and possibly Royal Marines.

Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 12 January 2015.
