Activities

Field Visit (29 November 2014)

Nothing is now visible of the farmsteading that once accompanied Annfield farmhouse, the buildings having been removed in recent years to make way for a modern housing development. As depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife 1856, Sheet 35), the steading comprised an L-plan range that was open to the E and S, its W wing incorporating a horse-engine. A freestanding building, probably the dwelling, stood immediately to the E, forming the third side of the court. By the 1890s, the 2nd edition of the map (Fife and Kinross 1896, Sheet XXXIX.SW) shows much the same layout except that the building presumed to be the dwelling on the earlier map had been extended to the E and a new farmhouse (now a private residence) had been constructed immediately S of the steading.
