OS 6" map (1919).

NMRS REFERENCE:

The smaller of two dovecots was demolished c.1942 by the R.A.F.

(Undated) information from catalogue listing collections and demolitions, held in RCAHMS Library.

'Dovecots, Boarhills. There are two rectangular dovecots on the north side of the village standing within 70 yards of each other. The western one measuring 13 feet 5 inches by 13 feet 10 inches is ruinous, while the eastern one, measuring 19 feet 10 inches, by 14 feet 6 inches, is entire and in use. These dovecots are built of rubble, harled, and probably date from the 17th century.'

RCAHMS 1933.

(NO 5661 1425). The more southern dovecot was pulled down about 1934 to provide building material.

Oral information from F W Roger, owner, Kenlygreen Farm, Boarhills, 1956.

The north dovecot (referred to by RCAHMS as the 'eastern one') is as described above and is in good condition. The site of the other is visible, but is tree grown and rubbish covered.

NO 5662 1432 is re-roofed and dormer pigeon entry replaced by a modified type.

Visited by OS (DS), 15 October 1956

The dovecot at NO 5662 1432 is as described above. The only evidence of the dovecot at NO 5661 1425 is the lower course of the north wall, the remainder of the foundations being obscured by rubbish and vegitation.

Visited by OS (EGC), 28 August 1968.

Historic slides H 94068 S and H 94074 S relate to the south (or west) doocot which has been demolished, while H 94075 S depicts the remaining one, which is also represented in the photographs F 56 and F 8322 PO.

Information from Anne Cassells (RCAHMS), 27 November 2008.
