Activities

Desk Based Assessment

Wooden Loch was formerly Wester Moss. When the moss was drained "roots, nuts, oak, the skull of a bison and the horns of a red deer" were found (according to the 1st Edition OS map, c.1860). The skull was probably that of a type of prehistoric oxen known as an aurochs, which may have become extinct during the Bronze Age.
