(NO 5020 1704) Golfers Bridge (NR)

OS 6" map (1938)

The Golfers Bridge is a small hump-backed pedestrian bridge. It measures 10.0m in length and 1.5m in width. Although old in appearance, it is doubtful if it is of archaeological interest, and may have been constructed when the Royal and Ancient Golf Club was formed in the late 18th century.

Visited by OS (JLD) 17 October 1956

The Golfer's Bridge is very ancient in appearance "and the inhabitants state it was erected in the 13th or 14th century...the Rev C J Lyon and Mr Ireland, writer, both resident in St Andrews, say that there is a tradition current in the locality that this is the oldest bridge in Fife." (Major Playfair, Provost of St Andrews; G Rae, architect).

Name Book 1854

As described by OS (JLD). The bridge has probably been restored.

Visited by OS (WDJ) 28 May 1964
