(NO 5156 1665) St Andrews "for the defence of the harbour the Committee of Estates in 1645, sanctioned the immediate erection of a fort on or near the site of the church (of the Blessed Mary of the Rock, see NO51NW 7).The necessary stones were to be obtained from the'old houssis' there and from the Priory".

There are no indications of fortifications in or about this location, although the site would have been ideal for such a Fort, as it overlooks and commands the harbour apporach. Only the foundations of St Mary's Church (NO51NW 7) exist.

NO 515 166. Excavation in advance of cliff consolidation has revealed 2 gun platforms 3.5m wide by 5m long, known to have been constructed in 1860.
