Activities

Field Visit (24 April 2010 - 1 May 2010)

A cluster of at least four narrow quarries or test-pits are situated in rough peaty moorland (HP 59422 03655) and improved pasture (HP 59441 03700, HP 59478 03678, HP 59473 03694) 120m E of the smaller of the two lochans to the N of the Loch of Brecksie. The best preserved (HP 59441 03700), which is cut by the track leading E from the A958 public road to a sheepfold (HP50SE 202), measures about 13.5m from NNW to SSW by 1m transversely. Their narrow form suggests they may be chromate quarries, examples of which are found widely throughout the area.

Visited by RCAHMS (DCC) 24 April -1 May 2010.
