Activities

Field Visit (24 April 2010 - 1 May 2010)

At least five narrow quarries or test-pits are situated in rough peaty pasture about 90m E of the larger of the two unnamed lochans to the N of the Loch of Brecksie. The two larger quarries respectively measure about 21m (HP 59524 03968) and 15.5m (HP 59517 03927) from N to S by 1m transversely, while the three smaller measure about 8.5m (HP59516 03970) from NW to SE and 8m (HP 59515 03937 and HP 59494 03903) from E to W by 1.5m transversely. Their narrow form suggests they may be chromate quarries which are found widely throughout the area.
