Dovecot, Barns. "In a field...close to the site of the old house or fortalice of Barns (23NW/NE 11) is a rectangular dovecot, probably of the 17th century, which has been wholly re-roofed with pantiles and partly rebuilt. The N and S walls have been stiffened with buttresses. The dovecot, which measures 25ft 9ins by 16ft 1 1/2ins, is still used.

Barns dovecot was demolished in the early 1960s.

(Undated) information from Demolitions catalogue held in RCAHMS library.

Local enquiries revealed that this dovecot was entirely removed a few years ago due to its dangerous condition.

Dovecot, Barns.

In a field at Barns, three-quarters of a mile south-west of the burgh of Crail and close to the site of the old house or fortalice of Barns, is a rectangular dovecot, probably of the 17th century, which has been wholly re-roofed with pantiles and partly rebuilt. The north and south walls have been stiffened with buttresses. The dovecot, which measures 25 feet 9 inches by 16 feet 1 ½ inches, is still used.
