Archaeology Notes

NO47NE 7 480 798.

The iron of the yett at Invermark Castle is said to have been dug from the mines in the neighbourhood, and smelted at a place on Tarfside farm known as Bonny Katie, where Lord Edzell had a smelting furnace.

A Jervise 1853.

According to Mr Davidson (West Migavie, Glenesk, Brechin), Bonny Katie was in the area centred NO 480 798. There is now no evidence of buildings or quarrying, but a piece of heavy iron slag in his possession was found by his late brother at Bonny Katie about 25 years ago whilst burning off heather.

Visited by OS (N K B) 10 November 1967.
