World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (28 October 2013)

The West Calder drill hall was built before the First World War and in 1914 was the base for "G" Company, 10th [Cyclist] Battalion, Royal Scots. The building was sold to the Co-operative Society as a garage after the war.

The front block is in the same style as Uphall, Bathgate and Fauldhouse, but with some variations. The ground floor has two bay windows flanking a door offset to the left; the windows and door are coevered by a shallow porch. On the first floor there is a double window on the left with a triple window on the right - unlike the other examples of this style this is not a Venetian window. On the second floor there is a half-dormer on the left and a window in a gable to the right. There are halls on both sides of the front block.

The building in 2009 was semi-derilect.

Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 28 October 2013.
