World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (7 October 2013)

A 1917 map of the First World War prisoner of war camp at Stobs (the chief camp of the PoW system in Scotland) shows a large hospital at the SW end of the camp, within the main barbed wire enclosure, but separated from the main camp by another fence. It comprised six wards in huts, linked by a road along their northern end, kitchen, stores, administration block, ablutions and mortuary. Modern aerial photography shows the surviving road system and the bases or outlines of most of the buildings, although later huts and a second road have been added.

Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 7 October 2013.
