Field Visit (10 April 2013)
This building in the lee of a coniferous plantation is situated immediately NW of a track on a natural SE facing terrace roughly 85m SSW of Kincraig House (NH80NW 33). It measures 6.5m from NE to SW by 4.3m transversely within roughly coursed rubble walls 0.8m thick, rising to a height of 2m at the SW gable. However, the NE end of the building has been wholly removed and its long walls have largely been reduced to their footings. The SW jamb of a central doorway survives on the SE, while rubble derived from the collapse of the upper section of the SW gable obscures a ground floor fireplace within the interior. More rubble, incorporating some large boulders resulting from field clearance, covers the remainder of the site. A gabled, slate roofed outshot has been added to the SW end of the building. This measures 6.7m from NE to SW by 3.8m transversely, over roughly coursed rubble walls 0.55m thick and 1.8m high at wallhead. The interior is divided into three compartments each of which was accessed by a door on the SE. Only this side of the outshot exhibits traces of a lime wash.
The building without the outshot is shown roofed on the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1873, sheet lxxxviii; 1903, sheet lxxxviii).
