World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (1 August 2013)

War Department maps of field defences of Scotland in 1916 (The National Archives WO 78/4396) record that the approach to the Invergordon Naval Base from the north-east was blocked by a series of trenches, strong-points and barbed wire entanglements. The defences ran NW for about 6.5km inland from the coast at Barbaraville.

Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 1 August 2013.
