World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (28 June 2013)

Ochil House, part of the Court House as depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map, was built in the early 19th century, was later converted into a prison and was acquired as a drill hall in 1882. The 2nd and 3rd epoch OS maps show the actual hall behind the former Court House. Osborne notes an inscription "1st C&KRV Drill Hall 1882" - that is 1st Clackmannan and Kinross Rifle Volunteers. In 1914 the hall was the drill station for "B" Squadron, Fife & Forfar Yeomanry and base for "E" & "H" Companies, 7th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.

The drill hall behind the front block has been demolished but the fine front block survives.

Information from HS/RCAHMS World War One Audit Project (GJB) 28 June 2013.
