Note (24 June 2013)

The wreckage of a Second World War Vickers Wellington bomber is located on the steep and grassy south-eastern slopes of the island of Soay, St Kilda (NA00SE 8). Attempts in the 1970s to identify the particular aircraft suggested it was probably LX998, lost on February 23rd 1943 during a routine exercise out of Stornoway (Barry 1980). Another candidate for the identity of the aircraft, HX448, is less likely.

The wreckage is visible on RCAHMS photographs taken in 2008.

Information from RCAHMS (GFG) 24 June 2013.
