Jackson Street drill hall (the Wyness Hall) was purpose-built in 1896 by the local architect George Grey. It is marked on the 2nd and 3rd epoch 1:2500 OS maps. It looks like a chapel with a gabled hall to the road, with a porch, and a flat-roofed hall with offices to the west, an extension built in 1925. In 1914-18 the hall was the drill station for “F” Squadron of the 2nd Scottish Horse, “E” Company of the 6th Gordon Highlanders and No. 2 Highland Division Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps.
The building survives and is now use as a community centre and law court.
