Test Pit Survey (21 July 2010 - 23 July 2010)
A series of test pits were excavated within the grounds of St Leonards School, St Andrews in advance of geotechnical site investigations. The work was undertaken under Scheduled Monument Consent. The remains of a sandstone cobbled surface was discovered in one test pit, sealed by topsoil and ash and set on made ground deposits. The surface is likely to be the remains of a former path or track leading from the main town wall entrance to St Catherine's House. Its lack of depth suggests that it is fairly recent in date. The soil profiles evealed in the test pits indicate that the area to the south of St Catherine's House has been extensively built up and landscaped. Potential traces of the ground surface prior to landscaping were revealed to the east of the investigation area. No other archaeological remains were discovered.

Archaeological Evaluation (25 May 2012)
A programme of archaeological investigation and recording was carried out on the remains of a wall and well, which had been discovered during ground breaking works during construction of a new extension at St Leonard's New Park School, St Andrews. The well appears to be in the approximate location of a draw well depicted on the Ordnance Survey Town Plan of 1854. The draw well lay in the south-east corner of a trapezoidal plot of land with a path running around its interior, to the east of the Abbey Mill. This feature is annotated as a pump on the 1893 Town Plan. The function of the trapezoidal plot of land is unclear from the mapping. The wall recorded to the east of the well is possibly the boundary wall of this plot of land.
