A 'subterraneous house' was discovered in 1795 on Hatton Law in the course of ploughing. It was arched or vaulted over like an oven, about the size of an ordinary room, built of yellowish unburnt lime-stone, without any lime or cement. The door entered from the south-east on the side of the hill, and the stones forming the sides of the door were very low. There were several household utensils in it, though in a considerable state of decay, an old tea kettle of bronze. The
'house' was taken down by Neill Adamson.
The whole south side of the hill in which this subterraneous house was found seems to have been once surrounded with similar buildings, as there are great numbers of these yellow lime stones lying all around it, which seem to have been all brought from the hollow water or burn which comes down a little east from Lundin House and west from this law. The ground is dry and sandy.

No trace of an earth-house was seen on Hatton Law; part of the hill is at present under crop. No information was obtained at Hatton Farm, of which farm the hill forms part.
