Note (18 December 2017)

The obstruction originally detected in 1981 and identified as a possible submarine in 1984 was re-surveyed during the Santi Odnalezc Orla expedition in 2017 (Collection ref: WP 004818). The submarine has been tentatively identified as HMS Narwhal, lost in late June 1940, on the basis of her size and shape, the character of the damage to her deck, and the reported sinking of an unidentified Allied submarine in this area by a German aircraft.

Information from HES Survey and Recording (GFG) 18 December 2017.
