NO35NE 24 3736 5736.
NO 372 573. A small scale excavation of a circular enclosure on Meams Farm, consisting on the surface of two stone circles, 15 and 34' in diameter, was carried out. Two trenches were cut diametrically through the site but there were no finds other than small quantities of clay which may have been used in the walls or roof.

NO 3736 5736. The disturbed remains of what is almost certainly a cairn are situated on the high point of a hillock in an area littered with old tree stumps (formerly Meams Wood). It comprises a 10.0m diameter setting of eighteen earthfast boulders (the largest being 1.5m long and 0.6m high) with the remains of a probable second circle inside. The latter consists of an arc of eight smaller earthfast boulders up to 0.5m high. The interior appears to be covered in a layer of very small stone perhaps to a hight of a few decimetres. The excavation trenches and spoil are not clearly indentifiable but there is evidence of other disturbance probabley caused during tree-removal in the area.
Evidence of two concentric circles, the internal layer of stone, and the apparent absence of a burial indicates this feature to be of Ring Cairn type.
Surveyed at 1/10,000.
Visited by OS (BS) 13 January 1977.
