Measurements: H 1.72m, W 0.43m, D 0.21m tapering downwards to 0.24m

Stone type: grey granite

Place of discovery: NO c 390 975

Present location: stored off-site for conservation; a new display shelter in the kirkyard is planned.

Evidence for discovery: found in 1878 built into the interior south wall of the church. It was removed and placed in a railed enclosure against the outside north wall.

Present condition: weathered and in places the carving is now very faint.

Description

This long rectangular slab is lightly incised with an outline cross, which spans the width and length of the slab. It is thus likely to have been a recumbent monument.

Date: eighth or ninth century.
