World War One Audit of Surviving Remains (25 June 2013)

The Union Street drill hall was erected before the First World War and comprises a two-storey, four-bay front block and hall behind in rubble masonry. It is mapped on the 2nd epoch 1:2500 OS map and in 1914 it was drill station for "C" Squadron, 1st Scottish Horse and the base for "E" Company of the 6th battalion Black Watch.

The building is still in use as a cadet centre.

Project (March 2013 - September 2013)

A project to characterise the quantity and quality of the Scottish resource of known surviving remains of the First World War. Carried out in partnership between Historic Scotland and RCAHMS.
