Archaeology Notes

NO33SE 18 354 325.

(Area: NO 354 325) The sites of Gourdie village and chapel lie within the gardens of Camperdown. About 1800, the remains of many houses could be seen. The Chapel of the Holy Spirit stood within a wood. All traces of the village and chapel have gone, but the finial of a pillar (clearly ecclesiastical in orgin) was found among some debris in the garden and may be from the chapel.

A Elliott 1911.

Little Gourdie Chapel (Holy Spirit) is mentioned in 1556. All that remains of the village, within Camperdown policies, adjacent to Gourdie farm, are traces of cottage gardens.

W C Skinner 1927.
