Description
This is the upper part of a cross-slab with a rounded top, carved in both relief and incision on its two broad faces. Face A bears the upper arms of a cross outlined with a roll moulding, with rectangular terminals and a central roundel. The arms have traces of interlace, while the roundel appears to have been filled with spiral pattern. On the left of the upper arm is a quadruped entwined with a fish-tailed serpent, both of which creatures have goggle eyes. A single quadruped appears to have filled the space to the right of the upper arm. Deeply incised on face C is an ornamented step symbol and the upper part of a Pictish beast symbol with an oval eye.
Date range: eighth century.
