OS 6" map (1959)

Birkhill (NO 3360 2336 ) which was very extensively improved and enlarged in 1857-9, was built in 1780 on the site of the old house owned by the Leslies, which is mentioned in a charter of 1601. A remnant of the old building, notable for the thickness of its walls, was in existence 'till the 1859 improvements.
