Activities

Field Visit (10 September 1997 - 10 September 1997)

The remains of a drystone dyke spread to c1.1m wide and c0.4m high encloses a piece of flat ground to the S of the path by the Abhainn Chonaig. The E end of this enclosure, which is c200m by c70m in total, is shown on the 1971 OS map. It is not shown on the 1st or 2nd edition OS maps. The grassland within this enclosure appears to have been ploughed/fertilised within the half century.

The stone dyke around this field was probably built after sheep were introduced at the beginning of the 19th century. It appears to have gone out of use as it was not shown on the 1st or 2nd edition OS maps.
