Archaeology Notes

NO32NW 1 3078 2996.

A souterrain of "Angus type" was found in April 1955 during the construction of a house called Wemyss at NO 307 299. Only the last thirty feet of the souterrain, with its terminal bulge, was unearthed. The walls (where seen) stood to a height of nearly four feet with a width of passage of about seven feet.

F T Wainwright 1956; 1963

NO 3078 2996. Nothing can be seen of the earth house now, but other remains have been discovered in the adjacent garden. Large stone slabs have been ploughed up in the field immediately west of the site but these discoveries have been deliberately kept quiet (Mr Fenton, "Wemyss", Longforgan).
