Site Management (3 October 2008)

L shaped stables of random rubble construction flanking the courtyard of the Scot's Mining Company House.

The Scot's Mining Company House was built as the mine manager's house for Leadhills mining settlement 1734-6, at a time when William Adam was known to be working at Hopetoun House and may be the only surviving example of a small mansion house designed by him. The Hope family, founders of Hopetoun House, acquired the lands of Leadhills through marriage of Sir James Hope (1614-61) to daughter of Robert Foulis of Leadhills. The house later becaming a shooting lodge in the 19th century. (Historic Scotland)
