Field Visit (16 August 2010)
The footprint of the turbines is immediately above a stone setting, centred on NL 69302 99116. This is 150m E of the position given for the site in the SEARCH survey of Barra undertaken in 2000. The site consists of small upright stones arranged in a series of arcs. A number of later cairns, a stone built dyke and two enclosures were recorded in the immediate vicinity. Some of the stones in the cairns are quite
large and it is likely that these were robbed from the stone setting, which may have originally formed a complete ring. The site is almost certainly prehistoric, and comparisons with other monuments on Barra suggest that it may represent either an early prehistoric ceremonial monument or a later centre of prehistoric activity.
