Site Management (13 July 2012)

Stone built single storey mausoleum in a remote location. Built in Norman Romanesque style, with apse end and round headed windows. Slated roof. Arched entrance. Two panels to one side of the entrance with verses from RL Stevenson:

GREY RECUMBENT TOMBS OF THE DEAD IN DESERT PLACES. STANDING STONES ON THE VACANT WINE-RED MOOR. HILLS OF SHEEP. AND THE HOWES OF THE SILENT VANISHED RACES AND WINDS. AUSTERE AND PURE.

THIS BE THE VERSE YOU GRAVE FOR ME: HERE HE LIES WHERE HE LONGED TO BE: HOME IS THE SAILOR, HOME FROM SEA. AND THE HUNTER HOME FROM THE HILL.

Photographs, dating from 1907, held in the University of St Andrews archive show the mausoleum intact.
