OS 25"map, (1914)

A cylindrical dovecot, 5.0m in diameter, apparently restored and in good condition. It contains a revolving ladder. The property of the National Trust for Scotland. Date uncertain, but probably of the 17/18th century.

Visited by OS (R D L) 22 May 1964.

Reference (February 2013)

A cylindrical structure with crenellated wallhead, c.5m diameter, built in coursed rubble; pointed-arch window openings (partial bricked up) high on two sides with stone perching cill, with small bird openings below; timber door unsecured on north side. Interior has nesting boxes and revolving timber ladder in place; used by pigeons.

Stands on high ground in Doocot Wood as a eye-catcher visible from the house and terraces and other parts of the policies.

Dovecot shown on 1854 Ordnance Survey 1:10,560 and later maps. Probably dating from the late-18th or early-19th century.
