Activities

Watching Brief (26 January 2010 - 5 March 2010)

NC 5794 0494 An evaluation of the potential impact of the

excavation of cable trench, between Achany Wind Farm and

Lairg Muir substation, identified three areas of archaeological

interest. A watching brief was undertaken 26 January–5

March 2010 at those locations.

A possible shallow pit, 2m in diameter and 0.3m deep,

infilled with charcoal rich soil and a possible placement of

granite cobbles, was recorded at Cashel (NC 57980 04926),

adjacent to two recorded hut circles. The feature only

survived in the S facing section of the cable trench. The

trench also cut through a possible rubble bank or boundary

at NC 58030 04943.
