Archaeology Notes

HY52SW 5 unlocated.

A cinerary urn, found on the north hill of Shapinsay, was donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1885 by Colonel Balfour of Balfour. Only 11 1/2" of the lower part of the vessel survives and where broken it measures 10 1/2" in diameter.

In 1885 'The Orcadian' reported a large complete cinerary urn found at a rocky ridge near the farm of Whitclet, which later broke up.
