Lussa Power Station

Lussa Power Station is a small station operating two small turbines which were originally commissioned to provide power for nearby Campbeltown and operate at a capacity of 2MW. The station receives water by tunnel and pressure pipeline from Loch Lussa (see separate item for dam), with a surge tower located to the north of the station. Lussa power station is an excellent example of a small hydro electric power station using the resources of local topography to generate power originally designed for immediate local distribution. The power station was designed by prominent architect Ian G Lindsay and illustrates his preoccupation with Scottish history and the use of Scottish baronial themes in the design. The design is particularly reminiscent of seventeenth and early eighteenth century design themes and in particular Wester Coates House in Edinburgh which Lindsay would have been familiar with from his work in this area of the city.
