Field Visit (2010)
Striven Dam provides storage and flow regulation for the nearby Striven power station (see separate item) to which water is conveyed by tunnel. The dam is of buttress type with a large fixed spillway to the centre and dispersal valve which is used to provide compensation water to the river. A central control tower operates the valve with a separate tower housing tunnel intake gates. This is a relatively small dam of predominantly standard construction, using a common buttress form for this date. PL Payne, 1988, 5; E Wood, 2002, 38; J Miller, 2002.
