Activities

Reference (2009 - 2010)

Oral history recording and place name research relating to Camuscross conducted by members of the local community. The purpose of this research was to record names which have not previously been recorded on maps, but have survived through local knowledge and oral tradition.

'Carn Sheonaid' means 'Janet’s cairn.' Oral history tells that this cairn was raised on the spot that an old beggar-woman died in a snow storm. Recent researches amongst the death records show that a Janet Campbell died of exposure in Camuscross in 18?? and it is presumed that this cairn commemorates her memory.

Information from SRP Camuscross, August 2011.
