Field Visit (2010)
This powerhouse originally housed the small turbine which was used to generate electricity, supplied to both the Abbey and the village. The 18 kW turbine was set into the building with water piped from the aqueduct above (NH30NE 90.00). The dam was constructed upstream and consisted of timber beams set into concrete stanchions. This is a historically important site, as the earliest extant fabric used for hydroelectric power generation which remained in use until 1951. However, the fabric of the site is now in very poor condition and there is only very limited evidence in the remaining fabric of the former function of the building, which is now in use as an agricultural store.
