(NO 242 952) Monaltrie House, burnt while occupied by Government troops after Culloden, stood on the hillside to the left of the road to Ballater, above the "Street of Monaltrie" (NO 244 943) a hamlet, which has now disappeared, which was built for soldiers disbanded after the American war.

At NO 2425 9520 is Monaltrie House, farmhouse of Mains of Monaltrie, built of random masonry with rubble infilling and plastered over, re-roofed with the interior modernised. A stone over the main entrance, in the south, bears the date 1704.
According to the present owner, Mr A Bernard, fire blackened stones can still be seen inside the house.
Almost certainly built in 1704, this is an uncastellated house of little architectural merit.
No trace of "Street of Monaltrie".
