The church was recorded by RCAHMS Threatened Buildings Survey in September 2013 prior to the sale of the church by thr General Trustees of the Church of Scotland.
The simple rectangular church was built in 1821 and retains its original canopied pulpit and a single gallery at the west end. The church was re-ordered in 1885 by John Carver when the present pews were installed the east gallery removed and the pulpit moved to the east end. The gig house for the minister's gig is attached to the north wall of the church but is now in the ownership of the Angus Roads Depertment. The church sits in a well tended graveyard.

(NO 2149 6045) The Church of Glenylit or Glenlyefe (Glenisla) was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. It was gifted to the Abbey of Cambuskenneth by King William the Lion, and is mentioned in the Taxation of 1275. It was in the diocese of Brechin. The patronage of the church was transferred to the Abbots of Cupar in 1311. In 1574 mention is made of the minister there. The present building was erected in 1821.
