In 1943, as part of the Emergency Survey undertaken during the Second World War, Angus Graham (then Secretary of RCAHMS) noted three stones, two of them supposedly erect, ‘about 300 yds’ SE of Stewarthall House. Graham’s description of the location does not provide enough information to accurately place the stones, but he infers that they stood relatively close to a corn-drying kiln (NS06SE 414) and thus perhaps represented the remains of a farmstead. Graham’s description also provides little clue regarding either the date or purpose of the stones.
