Activities

Field Visit (13 October 1987)

NO25SE 42 2797 5076.

What appears to be the remains of a burnt mound are situated on the SE side of a boggy hollow on the S side of Drumderrach, and 100m NNW of the standing stone, NO25SE 22. The turf-covered mound measures 12.3m N-S by 11.2m and about 0.5m in height; across the centre of the mound, from E to W, there is a shallow hollow (measuring about 3.9m in width and 0.2m in depth) which is edged on its N side (and possibly also on its S side) with a line of small boulders.

An exposure of core material on the S side displays a mass of small, blackened fragments of rock which contrasts with the rounded pebbles in a natural exposure a few metres from the E side.
