NO25NW 12.01 NO 227 580 Longhouses; Rig

Centred at NO 227 580 is a settlement of 13 stone-walled huts (A - N) and a contemporary field system marked by stone clearance heaps, ruinous walls, and a few lynchets.

'A' and 'B' are contiguous, both measuring 9.5m in diameter between wall centres. The entrances are in the SE. The E half of hut 'B' is occupied by a ruinous rectangular structure measuring 5.5m N-S by 4.5m.

'C' measures 7.0m in diameter between wall centres. The entrance is in the SE.

'D' measures 12.0m in diameter between wall centres. The entrance is in the SE.

'E', ill-defined, measures 11.0m in diameter. The entrance is in the SE.

'F' is of "Dalrulzian" type, measuring 7.5m in internal diameter and 14.5m between outer wall centres. The entrance is in the S.

'G' is of "Dalrulzian" type, measuring 7.5m in internal diameter and 12.5m between outer wall centres. The ill-defined entrance is in the E. Both 'F' and 'G' utilise a field wall to form part of their S arcs. (See NO15SW 8)

'H' measures 9.0m in diameter between the centres of a wall spread to 3.0m. The entrance is not evident. A field wall abuts on to the S arc. 'J' measures 18.0m in diameter between wall centres. In the S half a slight scarp inside the hut 4.5m in from the wall is suggstive of the central area of a "Dalrulzian" hut, but there is no trace of it elsewhere. The entrance is in the SE.

'K' measures 10.5m in diameter between the centres of an unusually thick wall spread to 3.5m. The entrance is in the SE.

'L' measures 11.0m in diameter between the centres of a wall spread to 3.0m. The entrance is in the SE.

'M' is of "Dalrulzian" type, measuring 9.0m in internal diameter and 16.5m between outer wall centres. The entrance is in the SE.

'N' measures 10.5m in diameter between the centres of a wall spread to 2.7m. A clearance heap overlies the E side of the entrance, which is in the SE. The field system is partly overlaid in the S by very weathered rig and furrow, with several rectangular building foundations (some of "long-house" type c. 20.0m x 6.0m) and associated walls. (See NO25NW 12.1) Extent of field system delineated on 6" sheet.
