Archaeology Notes

NH87NE 8009 c. 862 751

N57 45.1 W3 54.8

NLO: Balintore [name: NH 866 756]

Shandwick Bay [name centred NH 862 751].

(Classified as sloop: no cargo specified, but date of loss cited as September 1818). Hero: hull for sale, [this vessel] stranded in the Bay of Balintore.

Registration: Peterhead. 58 tons burthern.

(Location of loss cited as N57 45.50 W3 54.00).

I G Whittaker 1998.

The location assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. The Bay of Balintore is not noted as such on the 1998 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but is presumably to be equated with Shandwick Bay, to the SW of Balintore village.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 25 February 2011.
