Activities

Field Visit (1 May 2010 - 1 May 2010)

Visual inspection of the site.

Here there is a quarry the dolomite stone of which was used to build the adjacent march dyke between Cuil and Ardsheal. This was built in 1771. In the late 1940s the Duror Rock Company took out a lease but the site was never commercially exploited. The stone would have been sent to Stirling and there converted to a silky web that was used to insulate houses.
