Field Visit (1 January 2009 - 1 September 2010)

Visual inspection of site: Photographs: Measured.

This building is shown on the first (1875) and second (1897) OS 6-inch maps (Argyllshire and Buteshire sheet xliii)as roofed. Miss Donaldson in her book "Wanderings in the Western Highlands and Islands," published in 1921, states that it was ruined. All that remains are the footings of the walls and a trace of an internal stony division suggesting that this was a byre dwelling. It is built very close to the hillside. It is separated from the east building by about 2.5 metres. To the north-west is an enclosure bounded on three sides by a stone dyke and on the fourth by the hillside. The north-east wall forms a ha-ha. There is a small(1.3 by 0.8 metre) area immediately next to the hillside in the wall which looks as if it had been deliberately made and might have been a lamb pen or doghouse.
