This milestone is situated on the N side of the A944 public road in Cairneyhill village, in a small public garden a little to the N of the stone’s original position. It is a whinstone block that has a rounded back and two front faces, each about 0.36m in breadth, that rise vertically to two angled facets and a small flat top at a height of 0.73m. The incised inscription on the SW facet indicates the distance of 3 miles to Dunfermline; that on the SE face 13 miles to Alloa. The milestone is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Fife and Kinross 1856, sheet 34).
