Seven Roman coins were found about 1895 at Campmuir when making coal houses for the railway. They were a denarius of Julius Caesar, a copper coin of Faustina I deified, an Alexandrian bronze coin of Diocletian, dated to AD 292-3, two folles of Constantine I, minted at Alexandria and possibly Trier, a bronze coin of Aelia Flacilla, wife of Theodosius, minted at Antioch, and another of Honorius, minted at Constantinople. The first two coins may have been dropped by Roman troops at Lintrose but the other five, if lost in ancient times, must have belonged to native North Britons.
In 1945, these coins were in the possession of Charles Gavine, 74 Torrisdale St, Crosshill, Glasgow.
