Shieling group - Shieling huts, enclosures and cultivation remains (NOSAS Site Survey Nos 250 – 260) centred on NH 3665 5839. Located 2 kilometres west of Loch Luichart Dam on the N side of the Gleann Marcasaidh at an altitude of 200m and situated on a SE sloping spur of a broad gully carrying a tributary of the Allt a Ghlinne. The ground is generally heather covered but the interior of the enclosures stand out as improved grassland. There are the remains of seven shieling stances and three turf walled enclosures.
The shieling group (151,253-259) comprises a variety of small sub-rectangular or sub-oval building or cells with low footings formed of turf and stone. The largest (254) measures 5m x 2m internally.
An irregular shape enclosure (250) approximately 50m x 50m at NH 36625 58450 is the uppermost of the three enclosures on the site. There are two clearance cairns and a small area of lazy bed cultivation (251)and clearance within.
The middle enclosure (252) at NH 36682 58391 is approximately 60m x 25m and contains two shieling huts.
The lower (260) enclosure at NH 36720 58325 is sub-oval, some 60m diameter and is depicted on the current edition of the 1:10,000 map (1971).
